Good360 Summit Sneak Peek: A Look at Peet's Coffee & Tea and How Sustainable Business Builds Customer Loyalty

  Donor News Archive

Through The Corporate Summit on Product Philanthropy, to be hosted by Good360 this November, leaders from some of the world’s most innovative and successful companies will share insights and best practices on how purpose-driven business initiatives can lead to a better brand, a better business and a better bottom line.

Companies are finding that by doing good, they can do well. One great example is Peet’s Coffee & Tea—led by President  & CEO, Pat O’Dea—which holds to “the belief that true quality cannot be achieved without social, environmental, and economic sustainability.” Participating in global and local communities is an important part of Peet’s philosophy and because of this commitment, the company has gained customer loyalty unparalleled to other companies. In fact, their customers even have their own name, “Peetniks.”

Here’s a sneak peak of what O’Dea will share at the keynote luncheon on Thursday, November 10.

Peet’s is driven by a corporate mission to provide their customers with the highest quality coffee, and this is achieved in a variety of ways:

  • Direct Relationships. Peet’s creates long-term relationships with coffee partners. In turn, this quality earns them premium prices that are substantially higher than market prices and always above the Fair Trade Certified brand price.
  • Focused Philanthropy. By educating coffee farmers on how to improve the quality of their coffee and by supporting organizations dedicated to bettering the lives of people who live in coffee-growing regions, Peet’s has made a commitment not only to the product, but to the people, their livelihoods, and their community.
  • Green Roasting. 100% of Peet’s Coffees are roasted in the first LEED® Gold certified roasting facility in the nation, which further demonstrates how Peet’s walks the talk on sustainability, from source to cup.

Through effective partnerships and a mission-driven business, Peet’s has been able to create meaningful impact locally and in coffee growing regions. At the Summit, attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about Peet’s, O’Dea’s leadership, and the company’s philosophy on melding business and philanthropy.
