Indiana University Research

Framing Hope is a national product donation program created by Good360 (formerly Gifts In Kind International) and The Home Depot Foundation. Rather than disposing of unsold merchandise, The Home Depot stores donate it to participating nonprofit organizations through Good360.

   Quick Facts About Framing Hope

  • In the first 28 months of Framing Hope, the program has diverted 2,500 garbage trucks of compressed waste from landfills
  • The energy efficient usage of products from Framing Hope products saved enough electricity to power 294 homes annually. Over the lifetime of the products, 3,579 homes will be powered through the energy savings.
  • The energy already saved through Framing Hope is equivalent to the carbon sequestered by 90,138 tree seedlings grown for ten years.
  • Over the lifetime of the products donated, Framing Hope will save the energy equivalent to the carbon sequestered by 756,230 tree seedlings grown for ten years.

Good360, and The Home Depot Foundation have requested that the School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA) at Indiana University evaluate certain sustainability-related and economic benefits of the Framing Hope product donation program. Specifically, Good360  has requested that SPEA estimate: 1) landfill space and cost savings resulting from the program, 2) manufacturing energy savings resulting from the program, and 3) energy consumption savings resulting from the program.
