| The Soap and Detergent Association (SDA) has partnered with Gifts In Kind to offer a new product donation program,
Let’s Start Clean. The goal of the program is to create and make available 5,000 “Cleaning Kits” to communities recovering from natural disasters such as tornadoes, hurricanes and floods. The program also provides cleaning products to agencies providing transitional housing in communities throughout the United States. SDA has reached out to its members to request product donations for inclusion in the cleaning kits. Each kit contains about 12-15 assorted products. Kits are assembled by Achieva Resources in Indiana, an agency that provides employment opportunities for the mentally and physically challenged. Products valued at more than $140,000 have been donated thus far. Agencies in Texas and Louisiana have distributed the first pallets of cleaning kits to those who are recovering from the recent hurricanes.

“Home
Sweet Home”for the Holidays
Celebrating
the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers
40 Years of Service by Helping 40 Families in Need.
|
To commemorate its 40th anniversary in 2007, the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM) sponsored “Home Sweet Home,” a product donation program to provide appliances to at least 40 families rebuilding in New Orleans following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. In response to this outreach, AHAM members donated more than $100,000 in cash and products benefiting hundreds of families in the New Orleans area.
 |
 |
In 2008, AHAM wished to continue its efforts to help other communities rebuilding from natural disasters, especially those communities that had been overshadowed by the more publicized disasters. Home Sweet Home for the Holidays is an effort to aid communities in Kansas that are also recovering from devastating natural disasters.
Greensburg, Kansas was hit by an EF5 tornado in May 2007 that leveled 85 percent of the city and killed 11 people. The United Way of the Plains has been working hard to rebuild the town since the tornado hit, and they are working on building 15 new homes for families who are still living in FEMA trailers. The United Way still needs appliances for these 15 homes.
 |
 |
On June 11, 2008 the city of Chapman, Kansas was hit by an EF3 tornado. More than 60 homes were destroyed, as well as school buildings and churches. The United Way of the Plains is now assisting in the rebuilding of 20 of these homes and are in need of appliances for this project as well.
AHAM is reaching out to their members to donate to this worthy cause. Gifts In Kind International coordinates all phases of the donation process including the screening of agencies and individual recipient families through the United Way of the Plains, as well as the logistics and tax documentation of the donation. NSSEA Exhibitors Donate School Equipment to Baltimore Schools |
More than $125,000 (fmv) worth of school equipment and furniture from tbe NSSEA’s School Equipment Show was donated to Baltimore schools earlier this month. Gifts In Kind International coordinated the donations provided by 42 exhibitors at the annual exhibition on November 15 in Baltimore. Twelve trucks of desks, chairs, cabinets, easels and other furniture and equipment will benefit Title 1 schools in the Baltimore County School District.
“First, let me say WOW! The donated items were not only useful but also highly desirable to our schools,” said Robin Lopez, compliance specialist from the Title I Office in Baltimore County School District. “The fact that 99 percent of the items have been selected and are presently being delivered to the schools is a clear indication as to how well received the donation of the items has been. Twenty-one out of 42 schools came to the distribution center within 24 hours of the official notice. I’m sure that the principals are excited and thankful for all of the new resources in their building.”
