Benefits of Donating Product Donations to Nonprofits: A Green Solution
Donating Your Inventory—A Green Solution
The 2007 Cone Consumer Environmental Survey found that 93 percent of Americans believe companies have a responsibility to help preserve the environment. The study also found that more than one-third of those polled have a heightened interest in environment issues. The writing is on the wall--consumers want to know that the companies they purchase from are being responsible.
Don't Dispose, Donate
By donating your products through Gifts In Kind International, you are working to get the most use out of the products you produce. Let your customers know that you do not simply dispose or destroy your excess inventory—you donate those products to people in need. The philanthropic impact of this generous act is obvious. But, in the process, you are ensuring that the goods you create are being used before they are destroyed.
Donating products through Gifts In Kind International will also safeguard your branded products from entering the secondary market or being returned to the store for a refund. Gifts In Kind enforces a security policy that forbids member charities to sell, auction or use the donated products contrary to the donors' intention. This policy is based on the tax code that provides guidance for donating products. For some of our donors, we also offer de-labeling services.
Donating refurbished, high-end technology products is another great way of ensuring that products such as computers and copiers are used to the fullest extent possible, before they are discarded. As you communicate your Corporate Social Responsibility platform to your stakeholders, consider incorporating this aspect of your product donation programs. Donating your products is another way that your company is being an environmentally responsible organization--and your customers will appreciate it.
