Q. How does the donation process work?
A. While each process is unique, generally, once a donor has determined what items it is donating, the Product Donation Agreement is completed and sent to Gifts In Kind. The donation form provides relevant information about the items being donated, the timing and the fair market value. Once Gifts In Kind receives the form, we make arrangements with the donor to take possession of the inventory and distribute it to nonprofits that meet the eligibility guidelines for the program. Gifts In Kind also provides the donor with an acknowledgement letter and tax information.

Q. How are you funded?
A. Gifts In Kind International receives most of its funding from shipping and handling fees received from the recipient organizations to cover the costs associated with managing donation programs. Additionally, some companies assist by making cash grants to fund the management costs of their donation programs. Lastly, we also receive some cash grants for our general operating costs from individuals, foundations and companies.

Q. How are shipping and handling fees paid by recipient organizations determined?
A. The fees are based upon the costs associated with managing the specific donation program, which includes customer service support to the donor and the recipients, transportation, logistics, warehousing costs, data entry and general operating overhead costs. It should be noted that Gifts In Kind International is one of the most cost-efficient charities and operates at less than 1 percent of the value of products distributed on an annual basis.
