As a busy corporate executive, you know that it takes valuable time and resources to develop effective and meaningful corporate social responsibility and philanthropic programs. Verifying that the nonprofit and charitable organizations your company would like to work with are appropriate and legitimate is a significant addition to your heavy workload.
Gifts In Kind International has put in place a very thorough vetting process to authenticate all of the nonprofit groups we work with, including the 100,000 organizations that are part of our network. We take the process quite seriously, and follow up on a regular basis to make sure these groups are meeting all requirements.
Our vetting process requires that in order to qualify to receive your donated products, each nonprofit/charitable organization must meet stringent requirements. Before allowing an organization to join, the Gifts In Kind International staff:
- Asks each group to provide a program application and their tax-exempt status documentation.
- Reviews the tax-exempt status of the organization via a variety of databases such as the official IRS website and Guidestar.
- Performs a secondary review to make sure the organization is in good standing.
- Collects and reviews additional documents to assess the organization, including a board listing, a mission statement and financial documents that may include financial statements or tax forms.
Once those steps are taken, our staff does a secondary review, which is extensive and includes even further research. Gifts In Kind International uses the latest technology to authenticate these organizations, including Attus Technologies' WatchDOG. This software allows us to comply with the Patriot Act.
All organizations are required to undergo a new security review each time there is an additional donation distribution. For additional details regarding our vetting process, contact Dan McCabe, Executive Vice President, Donor Relations,(703) 299-7521
